Building a Mastering Studio
Building a mastering studio house requires proper preparation. A good location is part of the equation but no matter where a mastering studio is chosen to be built, there is going to be a need to treat certain surfaces of the room.
There are characteristics of the mastering studio having stone blocks in the floor or floating floors, etc. but the complete how to build a mastering studio from scratch will not be covered here since this is not what this site is about. However what will be covered is the sound proofing basics that give you a bit of the science side of mastering.
The shape of the room can dictate where you need to place sound absorbing sound traps or reflectors. However after initial placements are made, there has to be some sound testing with actual audio for even more adjustments. These placements will have a optimizing effect to how the music is heard in the center location of the room. The engineer's position should be in the middle of it all with speakers strategically placed, not just positioned any where left and right.
It should be known that getting a mastering studio set up properly requires a bit of trial & error with testing. This is not something you want to do without expert advice. While it is fun to just learn these things for some people, others want to build there own studio mastering haven for their own personal reasons. For people who simply just want to get there music mastered, they can have a little knowledge to carry with them while working on polishing their masterpieces.
