Walls & Floors
We already covered the walls and floor a bit in earlier posts but this will allow a little more focus on walls and floors. So, What about the walls & floors?.
If the mastering studio is only one room, then the concern on the walls is the proper soundproofing. The walls should not be hollow surrounding a mastering studio. They should be well insulated and plastered to make them as solid as possible. Remember we want to contain the sound an prevent it from escaping out in an uncontrolled manner. Once you have walls that fit these requirements initially then you can begin to align all the sound traps and buffers strategically around the walls of the studio. Hollow walls in the mastering studio are a no no.
As far as floors are concerned, they can cause sound reflections that can cause unwanted echo & reverbing effects. This is the most simplest issue to deal with by just installing some carpet. Another example to why you want to do this is if you watch TV in a room with no carpet, the sound is not going to be as clear as in a room with carpet.
So covering those control room floors is probably a good idea also if wall treatments don't do the job completely. In closing as an added benefit to your equipment, carpeting can attract most of the dust away from your components so you have less dusting needs. Just simply vacuum regularly.
