Using Presets

When using audio processors they usually come with some factory presets that are set for different genres of music. They can be useful for just general use in DJ booths, radio stations, or for whatever reasons to create sound drops & station commercials. For mastering, using presets is not recommended and is usually never used for the process.

The obvious reason for not using presets is the same as why you can't master every song the same exact way. You have to start from scratch with every song because they will all contain different elements & characteristics.

Presets will be off by miles when it comes to what a song needs to sound it's best. Generally they are for people who just want to play around with the sounds that the audio equipment can produce just for testing purposes. They also leave out many needed processing effects and act as a one size fits all kind of thing.

In the case of mastering music, audio presets are not very useful at all for producing quality results in audio. That is the way of the amateurs to use them who obviously don't not know what they are doing. You can have fun with presets, but only master music with good ears and the appropriate equipment.
